Sorry to say, but this was quite the excruciating read. Completely convoluted and airing heavily on the side of a narcissistic view of oneself. The author seems to lack self awareness and romanticises what are basic aspects of life, not inherent welshness. Like other articles penned by Mr Gable, it seems a desperate attempt at shedding the self loathing of being born in England and not feeling a sense of belonging, which comes from within. It’s blatant and sad to read and not something I nor folks I know find relatable.

Merlin i'm guessing? Let me write a review of your comment. There's no class, no grace, the criticism is just a personal dig and not a serious attempt at trying to get to a higher truth... what is it about the internet that makes it ok to be just plain mean?

Just because someone may be direct doesn’t mean it’s not a valid criticism. And I would tend to agree with the basis of the other criticisms and I don’t know the author personally. However it’s very self indulgent and far too indignant to be interesting.

Agreed, very pretentious. The editor needs an edit, badly.

Pretentious and embarrassingly overwitten.

The Roland Barthes passage merits a place in Pseuds' Corner.

I also graduated Cardiff University in 2017, and have moved many times since then. Some of these times were away from Cardiff and I think those have taught me what really "is" or "is not" Wales. Can I pitch an article as a follow-up to this?

Absolutely Tom - we’d love to hear from you. Get in touch!

Hia Merlin, what's the best way to get in touch?
